Over view:
DOT is seeking repair of concrete barrier rail on US 218 in Waterloo, IA. A C ontractor shall remove remaining damaged 10-foot section of barrier rail from site. Material becomes property of the contractor to dispose of off the project site. Contractor shall cast in place or install precast sections of 50 LF of new concrete barrier rail to the same dimension as the existing in accordance with Spec 2414. Barrier rail can be precast or cast in place. Barrier rail will need to be doweled into the existing concrete footing. As-builts provided for information purposes.

DOT Estimated Start Date: After the bid award.

DOT Estimated End Date: July 31st, 2023

This is project is exempt from state sales tax.
Questions: Until the contract is awarded the sole point of contact for this project is Julie Brown (see bid contract information) any and all questions related to this project included during a site visit are to be submitted to Julie Brown in writing preferably through the ION wave Bid system. (See the cut off period for question submissions and Site Visit scheduling indicated below)
Site Visit:
Site visits are recommended. Interested bidders can schedule a site visit with the Purchasing Agent listed on the solicitation via email @ julie.brown@iowadot.us.
DOT will coordinate with staff and send you confirmation once the site visit has been scheduled.
Contractors will be required to bring their own equipment needed for the site visit.
Award:
It is the intent of the Iowa DOT to award the contract to the responsible bidder whose submitted quotation is the most advantageous to the Iowa DOT, cost and other factors considered. Other factors include, but are not limited to: meeting or exceeding mandatory requirements, proposed staffing, and meeting required time schedule.

Question I was wondering if is any reinforcing that needs to be in the new rail outside of the dowels into the pavement?
Answer No reinforcing. It is being replaced in kind to what is existing today. More importantly, the shapes should match.
