Bid Questions
Question We have several questions that will help us determine if we meet the specs.

1. Wire/filler metal diameters to be used with the CMT System?
2. Main work was mentioned to be with stainless steel for a 20” long x 20” high build featuring a ½” / 12mm wall thickness. Do you plan on utilizing stringer beads or using a weave to fullfill the width requirement?
3. If aluminum will be used as well, what alloys and wire diameter are planned to be used?
4. Is Iowa State looking for an open concept cell or an enclosed cell?
5. Please confirm you have 240VAC 3 phase or 480VAC 3phase power available for the powersource.
6. Confirm that only a CMT system is needed for this cobot and a Tig/Plasma system is not necessary
7. Will a camera be used/mounted the cobot? If yes please inform us of the weight.
8. Confirm fume extraction for cell or at the torch is not needed?
Answer

1. Wire/filler metal diameters to be used with the CMT System?

400-1000 microns

2. Main work was mentioned to be with stainless steel for a 20” long x 20” high build featuring a ½” / 12mm wall thickness. Do you plan on utilizing stringer beads or using a weave to fullfill the width requirement?

Yes (one of the primary requirements)

3. If aluminum will be used as well, what alloys and wire diameter are planned to be used?

Aluminum will not be used. Only steels and nickel alloys.

4. Is Iowa State looking for an open concept cell or an enclosed cell?

Most probably an enclosed cell surrounded by welding curtains

5. Please confirm you have 240VAC 3 phase or 480VAC 3phase power available for the powersource.

240VAC 3 phase

6. Confirm that only a CMT system is needed for this cobot and a Tig/Plasma system is not necessary

Only MIG and not TIG/plasma

7. Will a camera be used/mounted the cobot? If yes please inform us of the weight.

No

8. Confirm fume extraction for cell or at the torch is not needed?

A fume extractor mounted with the torch is needed

Question Before I click no bid I thought I'd check as we meet or exceed every spec but one. We have a cobotic wire fed tig welding cell. It has an enclosure with powered doors for getting parts in and out, then a divider in the middle. Your spec asks for a mig welder, which there are many more options and I'm guessing cheaper. The Tig accomplishes the same and provides more versatility. You can see the system here if you need to take a peek https://www.e-ci.com/ez-weld. If not that is fine, I'll click no bid, I just wanted to ensure as this seems like it could be a fit for what you are asking for.
Answer
Thanks for your interest. However, a TIG welder will not work for these applications.

Only MIG welders will meet the specifications.
