Bid Questions
Question Can the customer identify the available power circuits? Is 120VAC available in proximity to the new siren? Is the contractor required to provide any trenching or conduit to connect the siren to the existing power circuit?
Answer There is no power in the vicinity. The siren will be run off solar and batteries which were requested in the specifications for the equipment.
Submitted 8/25/2023 02:43:38 PM (CT)
Question Can the customer identify the mounting requirements for the new siren? Will this be mounted on an existing pole/building? Will a new pole be required?
Answer It will be mounted to a new pole. The pole installation will be a separate bid.
Submitted 8/25/2023 02:41:25 PM (CT)
Question Can the customer identify the existing system an level of integration that is required? Is the integration purely for activation of the siren via a specific frequency?
Answer Currently, the City utilizes Whalen sirens and Watchdog software. The new siren needs to be compatible with the current equipment and have the ability to be set off in synchrony with the other sirens via our dispatch center.
Submitted 8/25/2023 02:39:22 PM (CT)
Question Does this require or need ‘New’ structures/poles to complete the system or are the new siren, cabinets, components being installed on existing structures? That wasn’t clear in the specifications and/or how many are needed.
Answer The City is only purchasing the equipment at this time. The pole and installation will be a separate bid.
Submitted 8/11/2023 02:48:13 PM (CT)
Question Could you please tell me what you have for an existing system and if an acoustic analysis is needed for proper acoustic coverage for Davenport?
Answer Currently, the City has 10 Whelen sirens in a combination of 4 and 8 horn models. This is the reason we are placing the siren at this location due to a lack of coverage from the acoustic analysis that was done.
Submitted 8/11/2023 02:48:01 PM (CT)
Question Is there to be removal of existing sirens and poles are part of the scope of installation? Will it be removal and disposal or will the City be keeping the sirens and such and providing a place for them to be put when removed?
Answer This is a new siren. The removal or disposal of exisiting sirens is not within the scope of this bid.
Submitted 8/7/2023 12:53:03 PM (CT)
Question It calls for a two way DTMF UH option but what is the two way software in place? **If full system replacement, this will not apply.
Answer The software that is utilized is Watchdog.
Submitted 8/7/2023 12:52:07 PM (CT)
Question The specification is for a directional voice siren, being the W4 which is a whelan siren, and limits the response to one manufacturer. Are alternates allowed to this that would allow for various manufacturers who offer omni-directional voice sirens?
Answer The City is accepting equivalent equipment options, but must be compatible and function properly with the current 10 sirens. An addendum was issued striking W4 from item one in the specifications.
Submitted 8/7/2023 12:50:22 PM (CT)
Question Is this an entire system replacement? It mentions interfacing to the existing system but talks of replacement system so looking for clarification on that. Thanks!
Answer The scope of this bid is to just add one new siren to the existing 10 that the City already has in place.
