Project Overview:
Removal:
Awarded bidder shall remove & dispose of (2) 48"x60' CMP. Excavated aggregate/soil may be separated & reused if suitable for installation of proposed pipes.
Proposed Install:
-Each Pipe shall be 48 inch Equivalent diameter CLASS IV elliptical RCP with a 48 ft. barrel length (assumed to be six sections 8' in length). CONNECTIONS SHALL USE TYPE 3 CONNECTIONS PER DR-121, 48" EQUIVALENT SIZING PER DR-202 = 96' TOTAL
-Both pipes will use (1) 48" equivalent low clearance concrete pipe apron on each end (PER DR-202)= 4 TOTAL
-VENDOR FOR ELLIPTICAL PIPE SHALL BE IA DOT MAPLE APPROVED SOURCE, SEE ATTACHED LIST
Note: The same class of concrete Arch pipe is acceptable in place of the elliptical
pipe.
Subgrade below pipe sections shall be compacted prior to pipe placement.
¾” Class A (gradation 11) may also be used & compacted if needed for pipe
bedding to establish correct flow line elevations.
Any additional backfill that may be needed around/over the proposed pipe
shall be provided by the awarded bidder. Backfill shall be free of
rock/debris, compacted in multiple lifts per IA DOT standard specifications,
and suitable to reestablish grasses.
Final grading shall be in accordance with EW-501.
Disturbed soils/grasses and project related grading shall be seeded using
the attached guidelines.
Proposed pipe & aprons will be approximately 6’ shorter in total length
than the existing, placement of proposed pipe mid-point shall be aligned
with existing centerline of the access.
Awarded bidder shall supply/install erosion control in accordance with road
design detail 570-12 and standard road plan EC-204.
Awarded bidder shall remove & dispose of erosion control when seeding is
70% established.

DOT estimated start date is to begin after bid award with completion June 30, 2023.
It is the intent of the Iowa DOT to award the contract to the responsible bidder whose submitted quotation is the most advantageous to the Iowa DOT, cost and other factors considered. Other factors include, but are not limited to: meeting or exceeding mandatory requirements, proposed staffing, and meeting required time schedule.
